Activities Update from Mr. Bendix

Greetings WLA family.

As the calendar turned to August, I was hoping we would have more clarity as to what to expect this fall.  I look forward to beginning the school year face-to-face and am very much hoping athletics and activities can start-up in the very near future.

We look forward to WLA school activities and groups beginning on time. Calendars and practice information will be coming from your teachers and directors when appropriate.

Athletics present a few different challenges as we are a member of the WIAA.  There is a WIAA Board of Control Meeting on August 14th.  Conferences and school boards will be meeting the following week as they look to determine their paths forward.

As it stands currently, Cross Country is scheduled to begin practices on August 17th with their first meet scheduled on August 27th.  Volleyball, Soccer, and Football have been pushed back to a September 7th start date.  The earliest possible game date for VB and Soccer is September 15th.  Football's earliest possible game date is September 23rd.

Many schools across the state have decided to only play sports within their conference, or even within their county.  More multi-team tournaments are being canceled each day.  Due to the changing landscape, all sports schedules are up in the air at this point.  We will schedule as many games as we safely can as soon as the dust settles and we know who is willing and able to play.

During the month of August, we are allowed to continue weight training and conditioning.  Open gyms and captains' practices are also being scheduled by fall sports.  Coaches will be sending that information out in the days ahead.  Feel free to reach out to your child's coach or me with any questions about this.

I look forward to sending out a virtual Parent/Athlete Meeting for you to view which will contain reminders for athletic paperwork and will hopefully provide a few more insights as to what to expect this fall.  Please look for that email in the days ahead.

It is important to remember the words of Romans 8:28 during this time - "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose."  God is in control and he certainly knows what is best for us!

As we patiently wait for more information, feel free to contact me with any activity or athletic questions you may have.
